BAC Celebrates Double Dose of Top Gear Glory in USA and UK

04/10/2017

Briggs Automotive Company (BAC) is celebrating a double dose of Top Gear glory, having wowed the BBC America Top Gear USA team across the pond and made the UK magazine’s All-Time Top 50 Cars as part of its special 300th issue.

BAC deployed its One-of-a-Kind Mono supercar to Marin County in northern California – not far from the BAC USA base in Sonoma – and let Top Gear USA presenter Bill Fichtner loose on the beautiful coastal roads.

Known for his roles as an actor in television shows Invasion and Prison Break and on the big screen in The Dark Knight and Black Hawk Down, Fichtner is a serious petrolhead away from his life in Hollywood and he relished every second behind the wheel of the Mono.

Every aspect of the car is tuned with ultimate performance and driving thrills in mind, and Fichtner was captivated by its incredible handling on the bending California roads.

He said: “This thing bends space and time with the way it corners – physics just stops making sense! What have BAC created here? A race car that’s what! A race car you can drive on the street! Nothing comes close… no way, no how! This is something special.”

BAC’s world-famous Mono has been making a splash in print as well as on screen, making Top Gear Magazine’s All-Time Top 50 Cars as part of its special 300th edition.   Top Gear UK counted down its favourite ever models from its long and rich history, with Mono taking pride of place with the pick of the bunch in 26th.

Mono is no stranger to Top Gear success, holding the fastest TV lap time honour on road-legal tyres in the Clarkson, Hammond and May heyday, being named the Stig’s Car of the Year back in 2011 and being crowned the Best Car in the World for Selfish Sundays.

It soaked up plenty of praise in the 300th issue, too: “Who’d have thought that two brothers from Cheshire could collate the most exquisite collection of componentry and meld them together into a droolworthy single-seater that makes you feel like Ayrton Senna on an A-road? It’s visceral. The jitter and jiggle you feel as the Mountune-fettled 2.5-litre buzzes against the carbon-backed seat, and the pneumatic gearbox fires the satisfying sounds of compressed air into yours ears, is magical. For selfish thrills and purity of purpose, the Mono is in a class of one.”

BAC Co-Founder and Director of Product Development, Neill Briggs, said: “The success of BAC USA has been truly fantastic, so it was little surprise when Top Gear USA came knocking on our door to get behind the wheel of Mono – and we jumped at the chance. Seeing Bill Fichtner’s reaction to the car was a sight to behold – he, like so many others, experienced the driving purity that only Mono can bring and we were delighted to supply that privilege. We have a long history of success with Top Gear, and being named alongside its favourite cars ever was a real honour. We can’t wait for further success with Top Gear going forwards.”
